Preparation and Powder Coating Motorcycle Parts

Before blasting work, steam cleaning is essential to remove salts oil and general contaminants. Once blasted, a full check is carried out for rust damage, broken welds or fitting.

After careful preparation and paying attention to detail, powder coating can match most wet paints on items. Our products are impervious to oil grease, brake fluid, road salt, and most corrosive chemicals. Resistant to stone chipping and very flexible. Highly recommended for any motorcycle part.

Restored Triumph
Our High Quality & Durable Service

Maldon Shot Blasting & Powder Coating Ltd offers high-quality, durable services for motorcycle frames and parts, including our standard five-year anti-corrosion guarantee. (subject to condition)

Our powder coating process is highly chip-resistant, providing a finish that is superior to stove or wet paint options. While some providers offer cheaper services, we never compromise on quality. We ensure a professional service, backed by a warranty of up to fifteen years.

We have discovered that applying a gloss powder coat followed by an acrylic crystal precise powder coat lacquer results in a finish that purists will find hard to distinguish from stove enamelling. If you would like to see samples of our work, feel free to visit our showroom or contact us to arrange a small sample of your project.

Our diverse range of colours and finishes

We offer a diverse range of colours and finishes, including flip and pearlescent options, special effect lacquers, candy colours, and a glow-in-the-dark range. We can also match any colour in two-pack or water-based automotive finishes.

Our Various Coating Options

Wet paints are recommended for specific items such as petrol tanks, mudguards, and side casings, though powder coating is also an option. Please note that E10 fuel can damage powder coat finishes. Additionally, fibreglass, carbon fibre, and plastic parts cannot be powder-coated, but we can coat them with ceramic paints (Cerakote). We now offer Cerakote finishes for all motorcycle parts, including high-temperature exhaust systems, and clear coats that protect against fuel damage over powder coat surfaces.

For more information and pricing, please feel free to call or email us. We offer warranties of up to fifteen years, depending on the condition of the parts and optional choices.

We take great care in preparing frames and parts for coating. Steel frames are dipped in an alkaline paint remover, cleaned, then masked off in sensitive areas and lightly blasted to remove all remaining paint and corrosion, resulting in an optimal surface for the primer or first coating.

For aluminium or alloy frames, we use bead blasting, which is less aggressive but still provides an excellent surface for the primer coat. After the blasting stage, we visually inspect the work for any damage, such as cracks or poorly welded joints. We repair any corrosion damage using high-temperature metal fillers or welding, if necessary. There may be an additional charge for these repairs (subject to agreement), but this ensures a proper finish before the coating work begins.

We can optionally place the frames and parts into our phosphating and wash plant for thorough deep cleaning and additional corrosion protection. The phosphating process etches into the surface, providing longer-lasting durability. This optional service incurs an extra charge but extends our warranty to fifteen years (subject to terms and conditions). The average additional cost is around £45.00 for the frame & swing arm.

Next, we apply a self-healing epoxy-polyester primer coat, averaging 50 microns per coat depending on your chosen level. After semi-curing, we use your selected colour coat and fully cure it at 180 degrees Celsius, ensuring that both the primer and topcoat bond effectively. At this stage, we can add a clear coat or a unique effect lacquer coat as desired.

For an enhanced finish, we also offer an additional acrylic lacquer for a deep lustre finish, or a matte or semi-matte finish as optional extras.

For pricing information, please email us with a list of the parts, photographs, and any known damage that may require additional work. This helps us assess the project’s scope and provide a cost estimate.
