What is Laser Cleaning?
Laser cleaning is a non-contact process that uses focused pulses of laser energy to remove unwanted material from a surface.
When the laser is directed at contaminants such as rust, paint, oxide, grease or other coatings, the energy causes the unwanted material to break down and detach from the underlying surface. The laser can be carefully controlled so that the contaminant is removed while the base material remains largely unaffected.
Unlike abrasive blasting, grinding or wire brushing, laser cleaning does not rely on physical contact with the surface. This makes it particularly useful for delicate components, intricate details and areas where maintaining the original profile and dimensions is important.

Laser cleaning works by laser ablation: short, intense pulses heat and vaporise corrosion products, causing them to separate from the substrate. Because the process is controlled and localised, the corrosion is removed without mechanical abrasion, preserving the original metal beneath. - Laser Cleaning on Hardwoods
Laser cleaning can be used on hardwoods when done correctly. We use a pulsed fibre laser, perform test patches, and employ proper fume extraction. This approach removes coatings and stains with minimal damage to the wood, but it must be carefully controlled to avoid charring or ignition.
